LIVE LINK CONNECT GUIDE

EPIC GAMES METAHUMAN

icon.png

This is a detailed guide how to connect your iPhone XR/XS/XS MAX. Using Epic Game's MetaHumans is FREE for everyone. Live Link does not work with Android phones as it uses iPhone's True Depth Camera.

Make sure to have Unreal Engine 4 versions 4.26.2 or later as well as the Live Link App from the Apple Store. Connectivity works with all Metahumans outside of the Metahuman sample project downloaded from Epic Games Marketplace as well.

LIVE LINK APP SETUP

Within the Live Link App on your phone, launch Live Link.

1. Tap the Gear Icon top left near the green
LIVE icon.

2. In Settings, tap the top bar labelled "Live Link" with your iPhone's name.

3. In "Live Link" add a Target. Type in your IP address of the PC you are using and select Protocol to be "4.25 and Later."

PC SETUP

To obtain your IP address, click on the WIFI icon on the bottom right of your Window's bar.

Under Properties, this window (RIGHT) should pop up and turn the Network Profile to PRIVATE

From here on, everything should be good to go, but I ran into troubles connecting my phone to my PC. The following extra step may or may not influence the connection.

Open Windows Defender Firewall.

Click on the Advanced Settings.

In the "Inbound Rules" Tab create a new rule with the action on the right side of the screen labelled "New Rule..."

Name this new inbound as "Live Link."

-Set the protocol type to be UDP.

(User Datagram Protocol (UDP) – a communications protocol that facilitates the exchange of messages between computing devices in a network.)

-Set Local port to be a specific port:  11111. This should match the default Port in the Live Link App.

-The Profile of this new inbound should be PRIVATE.

UNREAL ENGINE SETUP

Within Unreal Engine there are several Plug-ins to enable:
-Apple ARKIT
-Apple ARKIT Face Support
-Live Link
-Live LinkXR (Just in case)

Everything should be working now after several restarts. You may need to restart both Unreal Engine, Epic Games, as well as your PC.

In the drop down for LLink Face Subj should be your phone's name. You can now enable head rotations as well.

EXTRA STEP IF STILL NOT CONNECTING

If your phone still does not connect search "TRANSPORT" under Project Settings. Add ":6666" to the end of your IP address. Restart both engine and PC once again.

Click on the Windows tab of Unreal Engine then select "LiveLink." Your phone's name should appear in this tab to show connection is successful.
